Suburbia
Written and directed by – Andrea Orsenigo
Back in town for a funeral, Michele meets Sebastiano, his childhood friend. The two have not seen each other for three years and, despite the context, they embrace joyfully. Sebastiano tells his friend about life in the province, about his daughter who has grown up and about his new job. Michele is more reserved, his words contain a poorly concealed disillusionment.
Walking through his town, Michele is forced to process the discrepancy between the place of his memories and reality. Having reached the top of a large abandoned building, the subject of constant proposals for redevelopment, the man explains to his friend his desire to see some memories preserved. Sebastiano, not knowing what to say, offers him a cigarette. The two smoke in silence, looking at their land.

O Laúro
Written and directed by – Giovanna Lopalco
Aldara, a 10-year-old girl, spends her summer at her spinster aunts’ house in southern Italy. She finds solace in playing with her friends Amanda and Breixo and in fantasy. One day, they encounter two snakes mating, and Breixo chants a spell to separate them. Later, Aldara discovers the ‘Devil’ card and a legend about a monster called ‘The Lauro’ who torments animals and people at night. She steals the card and finds a sanitary pad, her favourite fetish, in Amanda’s mother’s bathroom.
That night, a strange creature appears, half-human, half-animal: The Lauro, who invites her to follow it through the fields, but she doesn’t go. The next morning, the Lauro appears again, and Aldara climbs onto its back to play with it.
A storm forces thechildren to stay at Amanda’s house, and Aldara uses the opportunity to search for another pad. Amanda catches her, and Aldara flees to the fields embarrassed. The Lauro follows her, trying to entice her into playing again. Off-screen, we hear Breixo repeating the spell.
Aldara’s mother’s arrival marks the end of summer, and she says goodbye to her friends and aunts. Before leaving, she digs a hole and murmurs something inaudible, and she climbs into her mother’s car. Summer is over.

Brazil

In a provincial elementary school in Serbia, a middle aged teacher Ceca prepares a group of little girls for a dance competition.
Ceca posts pictures of girls in revealing and slinky costumes. She aggressively makes them practice the choreography to the point of exhaustion. Nobody in the school approves of her and the only thing she is good at is her dance shows.
The girls protest the song selection and are called out by their class for hanging out with the bully-teacher. They decide not to show up for the competition. Ceca is furious while the audience is waiting for the spectacle to begin. Ceca takes the stage and starts to dance, as the spectators begin to follow along and dance with her.

Filonzana
Written and directed by – Martina Mele
Far from time in rural Sardinia, a village hidden in the hills prepares to celebrate Carnival, a lively and collective ritual that transforms each individual into something other than themselves.
Ester, a taciturn girl, wanders among masks and rituals, tormented by the mythical figure of the FILONZANA, symbol of the judgments that haunt her. Ester hides a secret: she is attracted to girls, a truth that she is afraid to reveal to her family and to herself.
While the party explodes in songs, dances and disguises, Ester confronts the animalistic and violent side of adults, hidden behind disturbing masks. In the chaos of the carnival she finds a moment of respite and truth: a clandestine meeting with a mysterious figure, also hidden by a sack. She is her girlfriend, her refuge. A kiss between masks seals a love that, at least for that moment, knows no judgment.
Dawn brings silence and clarity. Ester, who grew up in the whirlwind of the party, decides to confess her truth to her family. In a final act of liberation, she runs through the hills, illuminated by the sun, now in color: a young woman who has chosen to weave the threads of her own identity, free and aware.
